Our educational initiative aims to help students find further development as young professionals in the industry through the process of bringing a full-length show to life under the guidance of current working professionals. Allowing for students to expand their artistic horizons by working with others from all over Salem creates the opportunity for empathy and collaboration to occur - the cornerstone of the performing arts.
In this production, students will spend six weeks honing their skills in acting, singing, and dancing, culminating in three performances of 101 Dalmatians: Kids on the Salem’s Historic Grand Theatre Stage!
Rehearsal Begins September 28th
NEW TIME: Monday-Friday 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Performances: November 6th-8th
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the cost of participating in 101 Dalmatians: Kids?
A: The production costs $125. If you register before September 10th, you are elligible for a discounted rate of $100. Payment is due in full at the time of registration unless you are filling out a financial aid application. To do this, please contact the Box Office.
Q: Will there be a performance?
A: Yes! Our team is closely monitoring reccomendations put forth by the State of Orgeon. Because it is almost impossible to predict what the guidelines will be on November 6th, we are preparing mutliple plans of action. If we are unable to host an audience, the performance will be filmed and distributed to the parents.
Q: How are the performers social distancing during reherasals and performances?
A: All students will be asked to wear a mask to rehearsals. We will also be checking temperatures before you enter the door, and increasing the santitization of our rehearsal and theatrical spaces. When students are not actively onstage, they will be seated in their own safe space, at least 6' away from any other campers. We will follow many of the same rules that we used for our 2020 Summer Camps. Before camps begin, all parents will recieve a comprehensive plan for safety.
Q: What age groups are elligible for this production?
A: We are accepting students who are currently enrolled in grades 5-8.
Q: Does my student need any prior experience?
A: No! We welcome students of all levels and experiences.
Q: My student would like to participate in camp but will need to miss some of the rehearsal days. Can they still register?
A: Due to the condensed nature of this rehearsal process, it is important to have students present for the majority of camp, however they may be excused for up to 3 days of camp that are preapproved at the time of registration. All students must be available during the first three days of camp (for audition purposes) and for ALL performances. The cost of camp will not be adjusted for students who miss camp days.
Q: Is everyone who registers for camp guaranteed a role in the show?
A: Yes! The first two days of camp will be spent running the students through an audition process. They will be asked to sing a small selection from the show, read various roles in scenes, and learn and perform a short dance routine. We will use this process to assign roles to all of the students.
Q: Where do camp rehearsals take place?
A: Rehearsals will take place in the newly rennovated "Brick Room" of Salem's Historic Grand Event Spaces. On occasion, rehearsals will be on stage.
Q: What should my student wear to camp each day?
A: Comfortable clothes, such as athletic wear, that are easy to move in and close toed tennis shoes. If your student has dance shoes (jazz flats, sneakers, character shoes) they may wear those instead. Please make sure all clothing covers the body, even when dancing, lifting arms above your head, etc. Students with long hair should bring something to tie their hair up with.
Q: Will my camper need to provide anything for the performances?
A: Your camper will need to provide their own shoes and may be asked to provide some simple costumes pieces, such as plain black pants or leggings and a specific colored t-shirt.
Q: What is your refund policy?
A: Payments for camp are refundable, minus a deposit amount of $50, up to 7 days prior to the start of camp. There are no refunds within 7 days of the start of camp.
